*** "MADISON" GOES HOLLYWOOD!

If you haven't already heard, a movie is being filmed about the Miss Madison Gold Cup victory in Madison in 1971. The feature film stars Jim Caviezel ("Thin Red Line") and Jake Lloyd ("Star Wars") and is a true story about Miss Madison's miracle win in the Gold Cup race. The title for the movie is simply "MADISON".

The Seattle-based Hydroplane And Raceboat Museum (among others) brought vintage hulls for filming in the pits and on the water. As of mid-September, it was noted that the historic hydros had turned over 400 cumulative laps with few problems. ASTOUNDING! Still, some heroic boat repairs were reported during the month.

While die-hard fans of the sport will realize that MADISON is not a completely accurate re-creation of the event, we can all admire the great job they have been doing. It must have been spectacular to see and hear the piston-powered hydros 'racing' again.

Local favorite Fred Alter has been spotted at the scene as a driver and crew member for the Atlas Van Lines boat.
