CHRYSLER JEEP DETROIT APBA GOLD CUP July 8-11, 1999
*** Hydro day at the Dossin Museum (Saturday! March 20th)
11am: Photo / Souvenir collectors display and swap meet.
There may be a small admission fee. The Dossin Museum is on
Belle Isle (in Detroit). Stay right going almost halfway
around the isle, and watch to your right for the glass
display building with Miss Pepsi (she's hard to miss!).
*** GREAT NEWS!
The rumor is now fact: Chip Hanauer will drive for PICO in '99!
Inside news is that he originally considered it and turned it
down, but that the Wisne Family (of PICO) changed his mind.
This could be quite a year! Remember that Dave Villwock (Miss
Bud) and Chip have raced hard against each other before, but
the teams are reversed this time around.
*** We promise not to do this too often... more sad news...
Driver Roy Duby has passed away at the age of 87. Duby will
forever be identified as the driver who officially broke the
200 mile an hour barrier for propeller-driven boats.
On April 17, 1962, Roy guided George Simon's "MISS U.S. I"
through the measured mile at Guntersville, Alabama, with an
average speed of 200.419556. You can see a pic of the boat at
the Motorsports Hall Of Fame: http://www.mshf.com/museum/us1.htm
*** More GREAT NEWS! The "Bubble Bud" is in Detroit.
I reported on a new Detroit team in the last letter, but I was
incorrect that they are building a new hull. Unlimiteds Detroit
reports that the team, managed by Brian Keogh, has already
received the 1985 Miss Budweiser (dubbed the "Bubble Bud" for
it's early cockpit design) along with it's Rolls-Griffon
engines. I can't wait to hear this on the river!
