CHRYSLER JEEP DETROIT APBA GOLD CUP July 6-9, 2000
Thursday July 13 2000

*** QUAKE ON THE LAKE - PONTIAC MI - JULY 15-16 - THIS WEEKEND

For all of you that haven't had enough of steroid powered hydros blasting walls of water into the perfect blue summer sky after the Gold Cup in July, we have just the thing for you, Quake on the Lake. The inaugural Quake will take place on Pontiac Lake the weekend of July 15-16, giving all of us a chance to kick back and enjoy another hydro event.

Quake replaces the event previously held at Sylvan Lake. Boat classes will range from 4 cylinder, all the way up to the Unlimited Lights, which race on the Detroit River for the Chrysler Jeep Automotive Gold Cup. There will be over a dozen heats each day, including a Governor's Cup Race.

Tickets are $10 dollars per vehicle, so bring your friends! Gates open at 8am, and the pits are open to the public until 11am. Racing is 12:00 to about 5:30.

The Pontiac Lake Recreation area is located on Gale Road, approximately one mile North of M-59 and N. Williams Lake Road.

We'll setup a web page for Quake on the Lake and post a few pictures after the event. http://www.thunderfest.com/quake

*** CHARLEY WIGGINS RETIRES AFTER RECENT MISHAPS

From Charley Wiggins, driver of the U-6 Miss Madison and the UL-10 Earl's Performance Products:

"July 12, 2000

To My Family, The City of Madison, Fellow Racers, Fans and Friends:

It is with sorrow that I tell you of my decision to hang up my helmet and driving gloves for the last time. In light of my recent accidents and the deaths of fellow motorsport drivers Kenny Irwin and Adam Petty, I have come to the conclusion that for the first time in my life my passion for life, family and other activities outweigh my passion for driving race boats.

This sport, through its participants and fans have pushed me to great accomplishments, taught me life's lessons, sometimes tragic, and given me friendships that will last a lifetime. The City of Madison gave me a chance to fulfill a lifelong dream of racing an unlimited hydroplane. For these things and to all those involved, I will be forever grateful.

Now, its time to say goodbye to the sport that I love so, so much. And may God bless you as I feel he has blessed me!

Charley Wiggins"

Nate Brown, who served as the backup driver for the U-6 Miss Madison during this year's Madison Regatta, will serve as the new driver for the U-6 team. Nate is no stranger to the Unlimiteds having driven for Bill Wurster's U-8 team, the Ellstrom family's U-16 team, Steve Woomer's Truck Gear and others. The Miss Madison team welcomes Nate aboard and wishes him well as the Oh Boy! Oberto sponsored U-6 heads west!
