*** PICO DROPS OUT OF THE SPORT, CHIP HANAUER RETIRES
Most of you will have heard by now, but for anyone else ...
The PICO company was sold and the new owners will not be
campaigning an Unlimited Hydroplane in 2000. With PICO out,
Chip Hanauer has chosen to retire from the sport. We'll miss
them both! The good news is that the Leland U-100 team has a
new national sponsor and will be known as the Miss Project X,
with Greg Hopp at the helm.
*** DAVE VILLWOCK WINS SEASON OPENER IN LAKE HAVASU [5/21/00]
The U-1 Miss Budweiser ran in front from start to finish with
U-2 Freddie's Club Casinos challenging, but it wasn't enough.
As they lined up for the start, U-10 had lane one, U-1 had lane
two, U-2 had lane three with U-100 out in lane four. The U-5
got a late start and lost it's entire tail before the end. The
U-25 went down and the U-100 went down in lap one. The U-100
Project X did get back up and challenged George Stratton in the
U-5 for the 4th place spot at the end.
1st ... U-1 Miss Budweiser, Dave Villwock (130.199 MPH)
Special congrats to our Detroit drivers that placed #2 and #3!
Also, thanks to Cindy & Chuck Moore of

the UL-110 Miss CompAir coming in third. Steve Hook and the

to finish.
This was the first race win for an extremely excited Phil
Bononcini. As he returned to the shore he exploded from the
cockpit. Charley Wiggins was the first to congratulate Phil on
the win.
